"I admitted myself to this rehabilitation centre for 30 days after struggling with alcoholism and declining mental health following the arrival of my baby boy.

I looked at several other facilities, but after visiting this one, the atmosphere and staff immediately felt right for me. Arriving from the UK, I was naturally anxious, but from the moment I walked through the doors, I felt welcomed and supported.

My stay here was genuinely life-changing. It gave me the opportunity to better understand my mind than ever before, particularly after suffering a traumatic brain injury in 2016. The level of care and support I received was exceptional.

The therapists I was assigned, Kanan and Akanksha, were outstanding. I formed a particularly strong bond with Kanan, who helped me open up in ways I never expected. Our sessions were often emotional, but they allowed me to confront issues I had buried for years.

During my first week, I was prescribed benzodiazepine medication to help manage alcohol withdrawal safely. Under the supervision of the medical team, I was gradually taken off all medication and spent the final four weeks of my stay medication-free. Today, I am no longer taking any medication at all. I honestly feel better than I have at any point since recovering from my traumatic brain injury in 2016, and I cannot thank Sanctum enough for the hospitality, warmth and care.

Dr. Danesh is an incredibly intelligent man. His approach is one of honest, tough love, which resonated with me as it reminded me of the way my father has guided me throughout my life. Sometimes, hearing the truth is exactly what you need.

Dr. Niharika is one of the kindest and most compassionate people I have ever met. It was a privilege to have family sessions with her and to be under her care. Her warmth, empathy, and professionalism made a lasting impression on me and was admirable.

Another example of the incredible care I received was from Dr. Niharika. Knowing how much I hydrate, especially in the Indian heat, she regularly arranged for cases of large bottled water to be provided to me every few days at no additional cost. It may seem like a small gesture, but it was another example of how the team genuinely cared about my wellbeing and comfort throughout my stay.

My daily routine usually started early with a gym session, followed by a swim and breakfast. The first group session of the day was led by the caring and supportive Sonal and Gouri. Throughout the day, I attended therapy sessions, completed assignments, spent time reading, and finished with a final group session at 4:30pm led by one of the psychologists or doctors.

One of the most comforting aspects of my stay was listening to the stories of other people battling addiction. Despite coming from different backgrounds and different parts of the world, I found so many shared experiences and emotions. It reminded me that addiction does not discriminate.

I also made some fantastic friends during my time there — Himanshu from India, Mikey from the USA, and “Romey Rome” from Canada. The friendships and connections I built are something I will always treasure.

I initially came to Sanctum for 30 days, believing that would be enough. However, as my recovery progressed and I started feeling stronger both mentally and physically, I chose to extend my stay for as long as I could before returning home to Wales. That decision alone speaks volumes about the quality of care I received. For the first time in many years, I felt genuinely healthy, supported, and at peace with myself.

I hope to return the next time I visit India, but for all the right reasons.
